Oklahoma's freight map is an intersection. I-35 runs Kansas to Texas, I-40 runs Memphis to Amarillo, and I-44 ties Tulsa to Oklahoma City on the Turner Turnpike, so carriers plan dock appointments around the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority's toll network as much as around mileage.
Oklahoma City is the larger dock labor market, with Hobby Lobby's headquarters and distribution campus, the Love's Travel Stops home office, Amazon fulfillment space and the supplier tail of Tinker Air Force Base. Tulsa works differently, anchored by the Tulsa Port of Catoosa at the head of navigation on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, the Catoosa and Owasso warehouse belt, and MidAmerica Industrial Park at Pryor. See the Oklahoma City and Tulsa pages for submarket detail.
Consumer goods and food move most of the trailers. Walmart's Pauls Valley grocery distribution center and Dollar Tree's Marietta campus sit on I-35 south of the metros, and Seaboard Foods' pork plant at Guymon anchors reefer volume in the Panhandle. Retail resets and fourth quarter import flow moving inland from Gulf and West Coast gateways set the pace for third-party unloading crews.

Reading for Oklahoma operators
- How a lumping agency writes a quote a facility can say yes to
Most lost quotes are not lost on price. They are lost because the receiving manager could not tell what the number covered, could not defend it internally, or could not compare it to the quote sitting next to it.
6 min read - Live unload versus drop trailer: what each asks of the dock and the crew
The choice between keeping a driver at the door and taking the trailer off their hands changes your clock, your yard, your crew schedule, and who pays when something runs long. A plain comparison.
6 min read - Floor-loaded versus palletized trailers: why the unload time and the fee are so different
Two trailers of the same product, the same weight, and the same paperwork can take forty minutes or three hours to unload. The difference is whether the freight is on pallets, and it explains most of what confuses people about lumper pricing.

Questions about dock labor in Oklahoma
Does barge traffic at the Port of Catoosa create lumping work?
Not directly. Bulk and project cargo at Catoosa, including steel, fertilizer and wind components, is handled by port terminal operators with cranes and conveyors. The related dock labor shows up at the Catoosa and Rogers County warehouses that transload those inbound loads to truck, and when ice or high water slows the upper McClellan-Kerr system in winter, that volume shifts to rail and I-44 and lands as trailer unloading instead.
Where is the cold chain work outside Oklahoma City and Tulsa?
The Panhandle. Seaboard Foods at Guymon and the surrounding cattle feeding country make Texas County a reefer origin rather than a retail destination, so crews there load and check outbound temperature freight more than they strip inbound trailers. Grocery reefer receiving concentrates instead along I-35 at Pauls Valley and in the two metros.
